Teaching Fellowships

The Nanubhai Teaching Fellowship and Spoken English Fellowship is a year long opportunity for passionate, motivated individuals interested in improving rural education and providing access to new opportunities for rural students. Fellows work with local teachers, teach English, and support our capacity building programs by working directly with the communities we serve.

 Meet our  2011-2012 Class of  Teaching Fellows!

We are currently accepting applications for the 2012-2013 academic year- applications are due January 8, 2012. See below for details and the application. 

 TEACHING FELLOWSHIPFellows are placed individually in our partner schools to:

  • Implement professional development workshops tailored to the unique needs and strengths of the Gujarati context.
  • Model best practices by teaching/co-teaching English classes in local schools.
  • Liaise with administrators, teachers, and the communities we serve in order to monitor and evaluate our programs.
  • Conduct original research within the schools and communities that we serve to develop and supplement new programming. Past projects have included developing a mentoring program between high school and primary school students, creating and piloting an integrated Spoken-English and Technology curriculum and building up a 200+ book lending library at a partner school.

Fellows live within the rural villages they serve, allowing them to get to know their students, their students’ families and to integrate within the community. Benefits:

What we look for in a Fellow:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (M.Ed or Teaching Certificate preferred)
  • Classroom teaching experience (ESL experience preferred)
  • Experience leading or facilitating Professional Development workshops or programs
  • International experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to education of under-resourced students
  • Flexibility and cultural sensitivity
  • Initiative, creativity, and passion

The Fellowship starts in May/June of each year and runs until April of the following year. There are plenty of opportunities for travel within India during the course of the year.

SPOKEN ENGLISH FELLOW

The Nanubhai Spoken English Teaching Fellowship is an opportunity for passionate, motivated individuals interested in improving rural education and providing access to new opportunities for students and teachers in rural India. The SE Fellow will teach English classes, conduct teacher outreach and minimal teacher training while conducting research on a relevant topic of their choice.

We are currently accepting cover letters and resumes for this position on a rolling basis until January 8, 2012.

An SE Fellow is placed at our partner school site in Kadod to:

  • Teach Spoken English classes to rural Indian students.
  • Work one on one with local co-teachers in the classroom and outside
  • Conduct original research within the schools and communities that we serve to develop and supplement new programming.
  • Help assess our students for our Monitoring & Evaluation Project

  • Classroom teaching experience (esp. English, ESL or Computer) (preferred)
