The Nanubhai Teaching Internship is an opportunity for passionate, motivated individuals interested in improving rural education in India. Interns live within the rural villages they serve, allowing them to integrate with the community and connect with their students and their students’ parents. Job Responsibilities Teach Spoken English classes to rural Indian students. Assist in Monitoring & Evaluation of Nanubhai programs at our partner schools. Assist Fellows and Senior Fellows with projects and duties as required. Conduct an independent research project which will analyze Nanubhai’s impact and help further our goals in the communities we serve. Examples of past research projects include: conducting surveys about parental attitudes towards our programs, initiating and evaluating a peer-to-peer mentoring program, and coordinating the creation of a 200+ English library. Skills Desired Candidate for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or a recent graduate. Classroom teaching experience and/or a valid teaching certificate. Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching English or English as a Second Language. International experience. Preference will be given to those with experience living/working in a developing country. Demonstrated interest in the following or related areas: International Education, Educational Policy, Teaching, International Affairs/Policy, Sustainable Development Flexibility and a willingness to adapt to a new diet, culture, and lifestyle. A strong sense of personal responsibility, initiative and the ability to manage your own work. Willingness to both give and receive feedback. Creativity, passion and a sense of purpose. Internship Includes:Housing, Transportation to/from school (if necessary), Two hot meals a day of typical Gujarati cuisine, Internet access, Curriculum resources, on-site training, and continuous professional support and evaluation from experienced American teachers living on-site. The Nanubhai Education Foundation is seeking a dynamic and reliable volunteer/intern to assist in our Social Media efforts. Social Media avenues utilized to date include Facebook and Twitter. Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of both those sites from a business/marketing perspective, as well as an interest in expanding our presence to new social media outlets such as SEEP Community, online discussion forums, etc. Job Responsibilities Available to commit 3-4 hours per week dedicated to social media, preferably 30 mins daily Facebook and Tweet daily or every other day about: trends in education or India, Nanubhai events or exciting news, respond to comments Increase our Social Media fan base SkillsKnowledge of Social Media and proven background of producing results Ability to undertake brief research to stay abreast of trends and current events related to education and India. EdIndia is a project born of the partnership between MIT and the Nanubhai Education Foundation. The project will ultimately create a website aiming to be a platform for professionals, guidance counselors, parents, students and teachers to connect from all over India. The goal is to disseminate information, open up discussion channels, and provide a resource for students to understand the available opportunities and empower rural Indian students with the necessary guidance to choose a college, in the form of both quantitative statistics about schools and qualitative stories, through a forum-based website. This position will be integral in the collection of pertinent information for the first phase of the website. Job Responsibilities Collect information on how to apply to Indian colleges and universities. Build relationships and partnerships with admissions staff and faculty members at colleges and universities in Gujarat and in India in general Analyze data in preparation for use in web based forum and general reporting to the Nanubhai Education Foundation. Skills Desired Organized work ethic with attention to details and good follow-up. Self-driven leadership in project implementation and innovative approach in data collection and organization.
